one of the world's grandest sights

The Grand Canyon, in northwestern Arizona, is not the world's longest canyon. Nor is it the world's deepest. But it truly is vast. Carved by the Colorado River, the Grand Canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, as much as 18 miles (29 km) wide, and up to 6,000 feet (1,830 m) deep. By any measure, that's grand!
